Jumpstart Summer Enrichment Program Applications Now Open

Applications for the Jumpstart Summer Enrichment Program are now open!

The Jumpstart Summer Enrichment Program (JSEP) is sponsored by the Office of Diversity Affairs at LSU Health Shreveport. The JSEP program targets students interested in pursuing careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Research or Allied Health Professions. The JSEP program allows area high school students the opportunity to participate in eight weeks of hands-on research activities mentored by LSU Health Shrevport faculty. The program will run from June 4, 2019 – July 27, 2019.

High school students from Caddo and Bossier Parish Districts will be selected as program participants for the eight week program. Students are exposed to intense hands-on research activities conducted by LSUHS faculty who serve as program mentors. Selected students will work in a research laboratory or clinical setting 40 hours per week for eight weeks. Each Thursday, students are provided supplemental enrichment activities, which include: library, hospital, and animal care tours, lectures by health care professionals and motivational films. At the end of the program, students present the results of their research projects at a poster session which demonstrates their scientific writing skills and ability to evaluate scientific data. Students are encouraged to pursue careers in medicine, research or allied health professions.

The application can be found here and must be completed and submitted by March 15, 2019.
